STUDENT OWNED DEVICES – (CHROMEBOOKS, LAPTOPS, TABLETS, ETC.)
Every student will need a device of their own for the 2022-2023 school year.
Every student in grades 3-12 need to have their own device that they can bring back and forth for the 2022-2023 school year. Children in k-2 will have access to a Chromebook in the classroom but will not take it home with them at the end of the day. Students will not be expected to work on their device all day, having opportunities to engage in other ways.
Hub Virtual School students will be required to have a Chromebook or laptop with a camera and mic, and reliable internet.
If a student already has their own reliable device that can operate google classroom, they are welcome to use it instead of purchasing a new device or borrowing a Chromebook from MHPSD. We will support families that do not have, and who do not have a device for their child.
- Families are welcome to send any device (laptop, tablet, or Chromebook) to school with their child if it will allow them to access Google Classroom (this means having Google Chrome installed on the device) and complete their work. Students do not require expensive laptops or tablets to access online learning tools.
- Any student that does not have access to a device will be provided with a loaner Chromebook from their school.
- The Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy allows any students to bring their personally owned devices into the schools and connect to the school network via the Wi-Fi. The schools Wi-Fi network has thorough restrictions placed on it to ensure that all students are kept safe while browsing online and are also unable to access websites that the school deems inappropriate for students. This restriction extends to various popular social media websites.
- For anyone that purchased a Chromebook from MHPSD on a 3 year payment plan, those payments will continue to be charged to your method of payment.
MHPSD will no longer be providing a subsidized purchase options for Chromebooks. We have partnered with Memory Lane Computers and they will offer discounted device options for MHPSD families.
